Kito - LFO (ft. Reija Lee)
This Aussie producer released an EP of singular, molasses-infused, dubstep that inhabits a world of its own. Avoiding the catchy “clubstep” route followed by other female artists like Katy B, Kito shows some serious production mastery, creating grooves that kill on headphones, although you probably won’t hear a DJ spinning them anytime soon.
According to her myspace, Kito is signed to Mad Decent—it really seems like Diplo’s got Greg Popovich and the Spurs staff on his payroll because his international talent scouting is second to none.
Abstract:
A number of indie movies from the past ten years have portrayed female love interests with remarkable similarity, blending them all into one smudgy portrait. Since “indie” is synonymous with counterculture, or at least alternative culture, viewers expect characters that aren’t canned. An indie romantic comedy presumes that the male and female leads will be equally realized and written. Instead, indie movies of the early 21st century contained an insidious sexism. If she was in her late teens or early twenties, she remained amorphous. All you saw was all you got.
I’ve been listening to a bunch of comedy podcasts recently and it’s awoken the long-dormant comedy nerd in me. Anyway, this is from the hour long ASSSCAT improv special on Bravo. As hilarious as this is, I think we can all agree that Bravo has come a long way since shows like this and Inside the Actors Studio; it has thankfully evolved into the intellectual and cultural titan it is today, singularly capable of producing such masterpieces as The Real Housewives of Orange County, The Real Housewives of New York City, The Real Housewives of New Jersey, The Real Housewives of DC, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and Thintervention with Jackie Warner (I wish I made every single one of these up, but alas).

Pitchfork just pointed out that you can get a sneak peak at James Blake’s self-titled debut album. Just head over to this Norwegian website to stream the entire album.
Christoph Andersson - Capital
Apparently this kid is like 18 years old, but is already making really tight, dance-floor ready funky house music. “Capital” is my favorite track I’ve heard, but he has a couple more singles floating around the interweb. Keep an eye on this kid.
